Ethiopian Certificate of Conformity
It is a mandatory document for exporters shipping products to Ethiopia. It includes 124 standards, the list of regulated goods prepared by the Ethiopian Ministry of Commerce. The standards cover, but are not limited to, the following product groups: food products, construction materials, solar energy equipment, chemical products, electrical products, rubber and plastic products, textiles and leather products. Depending on the type of exporter, one of the following valuation paths is applied: А Exporters with irregular (rare) product shipments. This path requires evaluation of documents, surveillance and testing. B Exporters with regular (rare) product shipments. Products must be registered. Document evaluation with inspection is required. C Exporters with regular and large product shipments. A product license is provided and is expected to be reviewed periodically. Random testing is also required. The final step in each of the above-mentioned assessment routes is the issuance of a Certificate of Conformity. If the Ethiopian Certificate of Conformity is not provided during customs inspection, the products are subject to local conformity verification procedures, resulting in delays in delivery and increased costs for the importer.
